History of PL Tech Reviews

It is hard to pin down exactly where PL Tech Reviews started, or where the idea for technologyreviews.co.uk came from, but on this page, I will outline how this website has become what it has, although not everything I describe will have resources to go along with it.

In 2015, I was finishing my second year of GCSEs, and although I have always — and already at that stage — knew that I wanted to get involved with the film industry, I was at a stage where I was considering other backup plans for what I would do if I didn’t get into the film industry, one of which was working with computers.

I was fortunate around the same time to get some work experience with AllState NI, but as much as I still had an interest in computers, programming with fractions, multiple programming languages and lots, AND LOTS of Maths skills, was definitely not something I could grasp.

And it was around half way through that work experience when I came home and — after browsing around blogging sites — created a site called Apple Technology Reviews, which in the days that followed, I got plenty of attention for, after coming up with the idea of describing how not too many games or technologies were accessible for me.

I kept on blogging on that site for months after, even uploading blogs where I reviewed a 15” MacBook Pro that I got, as well as a Magic Keyboard, and I even wrote a blog where I compared and contrasted Final Cut Pro and GarageBand, which I got experience using in school and at home. But because I was still in school at the time, I felt like I just couldn’t get time to create any content about it, and as someone who was really into getting experience for the main career I wanted to get into, I decided to give it up for the time being, while dabbling in a couple of other film and tv review areas every now and again.

Fast forward to around April or May 2019 when I was in my second year of studying for an HND in Broadcast Journalism at the Belfast Met, I had decided that I might like to get back into reviewing technology again. At the time, I had already set up a couple of political blogs, where I explained the local politics of the time in a way that was extremely easy to understand. But at the same time, I was also expected to write up another article for the Met’s student magazine, Impress, which I just didn’t feel like I had the time to do, as I had Finals at the time as well.

I had ordered a new pair of Skullcandy Uproar Wireless headphones, however, which had already arrived, and as there were only a few hours before my article had to be in, I just wrote up a review of them, not expecting much to come from it.

That article was published in the magazine, and I got a lot of good feedback about how good the idea was, which was enough to convince me to get back into reviewing accessible tech. But it wasn’t until after I got a lot of stats from my tourism reviews, film, tv and theatre reviews on my Www.phoebelyle.com site that I decided to change the title for the site to PL Tech Reviews, which is what I’ve finally now settled on, though the website address is the same as it has been for the last few years.
