Apple announced iOS 17 during WWDC23 this year, with a number of new features included on all versions of the software, whether on the iPad, the iPhone, the Mac, or on other Apple devices, such as on the Apple TV 4K or AirPods.

It has been available to the public since the 18th of September 2023, though it was available beforehand for developers / tech enthusiasts who were part of Apple’s Beta Programme.

In this blog, you’re going to learn how to customise and add widgets to your iPad’s Home Screen, as well as how you can add Interactive Widgets to your Lock Screen.

How to customise your iPad’s Home Screen / Lock Screen

To customise your iPad’s Lock Screen, you’ll have to swipe down from the top of your iPad screen until your usual Home Screen is completely covered, then you’ll have to hold your finger or whatever you use to work your iPad down on the blank space (it will be at the side depending on how many notifications appear on your Lock Screen).

A screen with whatever screensaver you’ve chosen for your Lock Screen will come up, and from here, you can customise a number of different features, depending on what you want.

If you want to change the colour or font of the date or time, you can change it by tapping the date or time, and from there, you can tap whatever colour you’d like it to be and slide a pale, white circle back and forth if you want the text to appear darker or lighter.

It’s also possible to change the font.

However, something else it’s possible to do in iOS17 for the iPad is to add interactive widgets to your Lock Screen, which you can do in pretty much the same way as you used when you were customising the Lock Screen.

After making your way back to the screen which gives you the option to customise a Lock Screen or a Home Screen, you’ll want to enter the Lock Screen option again.

An option will then show up at the side of the screen with the label ‘Add Widgets’ which you’ll want to tap, and after you tap it, a large window with a load of different widget options will come up.

To add widgets into the space offered, all you’ll have to do is either tap the plus button beside each option as you open them, or you can drag them over.
