What’s up PL Tech Reviews’ fans and welcome back for another blog!
A wee while ago, I wrote a blog and uploaded a video about a customised DSi that I have been testing, in a post that saw me trying Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Brain Training, New Super Mario Bros and Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.
Since uploading that, I’ve bought in more and more DS Games — some which I have had experiences playing before and wanted to revisit, but most of which I’ve never had the chance to play before.
In this blog, I will tell you all about five of those games I checked out, and review them from the point-of-view of how accessible they are.
No 1: Zoo Tycoon DS
Zoo Tycoon is a Strategy game developed by Blue Fang and published by Rotobee.
Rated 3+, the game gives you the chance to create your own zoo. But, it is a good game for people who like roleplaying games that aren’t too stressful, no matter if you’re an adult or a child.
You play the game with the touchscreen, the D-Pad and the L / R buttons which are used to rotate around your zoo, but the main part of it is played with the D-Pad and touchscreen, which makes it accessible even if you don’t have a switch port.
No 2. Women’s Murder Club
Women’s Murder Club: Games of Passion is an Adventure / Puzzle game developed by Griptonite Games and published by I-play.
The game invites you to step into the shoes of Lindsay, Claire and Cindy, who are members of the Women’s Murder Club, as you uncover the secrets of murder cases and realise a surprising link between all of them.
To play the game, you have to turn the DS on its side, but other than that, you use the touchscreen to do everything else. You will have to turn the DS back round when playing puzzles such as Mahjong through some of the chapters. But I’m really happy with the accessibility of it, and I’m really enjoying the game so far.
No 3. Ratatouille DS
Based off the Disney and Pixar film of the same name, you take on the role of Remy, a young rat with dreams of becoming a chef.
The controls for the game include the touchscreen, the ABYX buttons and the D-Pad.
But the game really isn’t accessible at all for those with limited movement, unless you can use multiple fingers, or if you’re playing the mini game. But if that’s the case, you might be better just buying the Food Frenzy version of the game, as the main part of this game is really difficult if you don’t have much movement.
No 4. Sonic Chronicles: The dark brotherhood
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood is an Adventure / Platform game which was developed by Bioware and published by SEGA, and is the SEGA mascot’s first roleplaying game.
Rated 7+ and allowing for 1-2 players, the game starts on a holiday that Sonic is taking after another battle with Dr Eggman some time. But soon enough, he gets a call from Tails to let him know Knuckles has been kidnapped, and that the Chaos Emeralds are disappearing.
The game is played with the touchscreen, which I think makes it a lot more accessible than other games, and so far, I’ve really enjoyed playing it.
No 5. a Christmas Carol
Inspired by the Classic tale by Charles Dickens and based off the animated Disney film, A Christmas Carol is an Adventure / Puzzle game rated 7+ and which was developed by Sumo Digital and published by Disney Interactive. It allows 1-2 players.
You can control the game by blowing or shouting into the microphone while using the stylus to pull, shake, drag, rattle and tap to interact with everything in Scrooge’s world.
There’s also 10 single player mini games.
Conclusion
So I bought all of these games in back in February, and so far, I’ve had a really good time playing them.
No; not all of them are accessible, and I am disappointed in the Ratatouille game, as I would have liked settings that let you choose whether or not you would like to map everything to the touch screen or not, so the user can choose which layout works for them.
But other than that, all the other games have been fantastic, and so far, I believe I can get to the end of the ones that have a story to them.
I’m also able to play Zoo Tycoon a lot better than I could before.
